“Your presentations were the perfect combination of multimedia and personal interaction with the audience, capturing everyone’s attention while involving them in the program.
The workshops were the “icing on the cake,” reinforcing what was learned
in the DVD and powerpoint through the experience of
creating personal collages ~ a fun and very powerful learning opportunity.”
~Rebecca Creswell, Hamilton School Librarian, Bridgewater, NJ
An Artist In Residence Program is an extended school visit where, generally, one grade level gets to work with me numerous times in a more intensive hands-on experience.
Grades 2-4 will benefit most from an AIR program and, during the course of three or more days, be involved in the very same steps that I go through to produce my picture books:
painting collage paper, writing with alliteration and rhyme, and illustrating their writing through cut paper collage. It’s a way of really being a writer and an illustrator WITH a writer and an illustrator! The repeated sessions allow me and the children to get to know each other in a great way.
About a third of the schools I visit each year are schools who have adopted this format and have me back year after year to work with a particular grade level, often pairing it with a special Kindergarten program where children are first introduced to me and my work.
AIR Programs of 3 or more days at the same school receive a 10% discount on their rates.
If you are interested in an Artist In Residence Program for your school, just contact me and I will create a customized proposal for you that includes all sessions, expenses and options for a terrific program. Many schools run these programs through grant funding that they apply for well in advance of the actual visit. My AIR Programs fulfill a number of curriculum standards!
